1) Are there any limitations regarding number and/or size of files saved in the image?
2) A limit for the wim archive size other than the one of the file system it is saved on?

Everything uses 64-bit numbers, so you won't run into limits with the format itself. However, large numbers of files will require a lot of memory to process --- as much as 1KB/file, but it varies.
