Re: Best practises for applying an image to existing volume

* The error does not occur on every directory, but on some directories it occurs consistently. Is there a way to ignore the error so I can see a list of directories which trigger it? What do these directories have in common? Something odd I noticed, which may or may not be related, is that certain ...

Re: Best practises for applying an image to existing volume

For example, I just tested with a Windows 10 image in a virtual machine (since its the smallest image I have): I mounted the drive as E: in my VM and captured the image: C:\>C:\WIM\wimcapture E:\ Image.wim --compress=xpress Scanning "E:\" 129 bytes scanned (1 files, 0 directories) Excludin...

Best practises for applying an image to existing volume

Hi, I have a couple of tablets with small SSDs. One is a Windows 8.1 tablet with 64GB, and another is a Windows 10 tablet with 32GB. On both machines, I periodically have to capture the installed image, and reapply it with --wimboot or --compact (respectively) to reclaim space used by updates and ot...

Re: Windows 10 --compact deployment of Windows 8.1

Despite my best efforts, I could not get a Windows 8.1 system (with wofadk.sys loaded) to apply a WIM with --compact. I don't know if this is my fault or an issue with wimlib. I tried again using a Windows 10 host to apply an image of a Windows 8.1 system using --compact. This worked and wimapply di...

Windows 10 --compact deployment of Windows 8.1

Hi, Having spent most of yesterday and today researching and experimenting with WIM deployment and wimlib, I stumbled upon posts and discussions of people using the wofadk.sys driver from the Windows 10 ADK in Windows 8.1. They have used it to apply WIM images of Windows 10, but can it also be used ...

Re: Update existing Windows 8.1 WIMBOOT wim image?

Wow, despite over a year of updates, the new WIM is only 200MB larger than the previous one. LZX compression makes a hell of a difference, and does not appear any worse performance wise on this machine (Bay-trail Celeron N2910). This is amazing! Can I use other (larger) block sizes too? or does the ...

Update existing Windows 8.1 WIMBOOT wim image?

Hi, I have an existing Windows 8.1 Pro installation that was deployed using wimboot. The wimlib documentation is not clear about this, but can I capture the installation as a new wim image? The current installation is a mix of wim pointer files and "real" files as installation is already q...
